Looking for information on
Effie Evelyn Boyer date of birth, Dec. 25, 1892 in Dexter, MO. She married
Charles Finus Black in Mo, around the Dexter, Malden area. They moved to Michigan where they both died there. They had many children but only three lived,
Paul Basil Black,
Chester Nathaniel, and
Arron Roy. All we know is she had a sister they called
Idie and she married a Christian and later moved to Michigan.
Effie
Evelyn Boyer's father was suppose to have only been about six years old when they came from Frankfort, Germany. We have no names of her parents or other siblings. Should you come across any information that might help us we would be so grateful. We are at a brick wall and don't know where else to look.
Oster/Ooster from Wybelsum, Ostfriesland, GE to Parkersburg & Bluff Center, Iowa in 1883 and then to Clara City, Minnesota in 1901.
I am interested in ancestors of Nathanial Hickman
(died 1795) & Thomas Vivrett (died 1791), both of Edgecombe County NC
; Lewis (Luke) Rogers (Rodgers) born 3 Aug 1827 in TN.
I am looking for any information on Martin Oster,
no dates of birth/death/marriage available. He married Barbara Oscholdt,
also no dates known. They had a daughter, Anna Caroline Oster, born
1875, possibly in Missouri; she married Antone H. Tellman, born 1864 in
Cole County, Missouri. Any information on these persons, is appreciated.
Unfortunately, I have very little on my HICKMAN
ancestors. I have no idea where William Hickman was from 1783 (his
reported birth in NC) until the 1850 Census in Cedar County, Mo. which showed William
b. 1783 NC, Patsy b. 1797 NC, Elizabeth b. 1826 NC and Sophia
b. 1847 Mo. living in the same household .
Were they part of the Morman movement then moving through Mo?
I think not, but I have no proof one way or the other. Then there are
the names of the sons - Alexander b. 1860 Cedar Co., Mo. Could he
be named after Patsy's father as was much of the custom in those days?
Johnson Lincoln, b. 1865, (my grandfather); Lincoln
is easy to understand (they are still Republican to this day), but could Johnson
have been the name
of his father? Again, the custom of naming the 2nd son after the father.
There was a John Hickman buried in Corry Cemetery (closest
cemetery to where they lived). This was reported in a May 31 edition of the
Greenfield Vedette which listed all of the veterans of all wars buried in Dade Co., Mo.
It indicated he fought in the Civil War as a Union soldier. There is no stone
to mark the grave and Harry Hickman was unable to locate any
information in the archives in Washington. There are no other Hickmans
buried n this cemetery. I can find no connection to other Hickmans
in Cedar Co. They came there after the civil war and were also from NC (as were many
of the residents of Cedar Co). They were descendants of another William
Hickman, date of birth and death unknown who married JaneTalbot.
William Hickman Sr., b. 1790, d. abt 1817 in Cadles Creek, Surry
Co., NC is the only child I have of this union. William Sr. married
Ann ? and they had 5 children: William
Hardin Hickman m. (1) Gemina Creed and (2) Lucinda
Whitaker Draughan. They all died in Surry Co., NC. Between the two
wives, William Harden Hickman had 13 children, 2 of which settled
and died in Cedar Co., Mo. Gabriel, b. 1832, d. 1898, and John
Dillard Hickman, b. 1844, d. 1876. I have extracted this information from
material sent to me by Gretta Wyman which was quite lengthy.
In addition to researching the HICKMAN family, I am
also interested in DAVIS, DUNCAN, WALKER
families. I have the Davis family back to England and the Walkers
to Scotland. Duncan back to the early 1700s.
I will, of course, be happy to share any information.
My surnames that I am presently researching are: Brown
(Henry County, Alabama), Kirkland (Henry County, Alabama), McLendon
(Pike County, Alabama), Harris, Hickman, Starling,
Peacock, Simmons, Griggs, Whitehead, and Allen.

According to
Joseph Hickman's Bible record, published by Hester &
Edward Smith of Birmingham, AL, his mother was born 22 September 1766; his
father, William, on 25 December 1756. Hes and Ed,
very reliable researchers, gave the name of William's wife as Ann
without citing source. At the time of William's death on Monroe
County, MO in 1834 his wife's name was Rachel. As Joseph Hickman,
the oldest child, was born on 15 November 1787, his father was approximately 31 years old
when he was born and his mother about 21. The marriage must have occurred in or prior to
early 1787.
One step in trying to identify the parentage of Joseph Hickman's
mother is to see where they were living at the time they married. Although the Jefferson
County, AL census record of 1860 shows that both Joseph and his wife, nee
Martha Pullen, were born in SC, that could have been the place of their
earliest memories rather than the actual place of their births. As William Pullen lived
in Wilkes County, GA prior to, during, and after 1790, Martha was
probably born there.
So let us see where William Hickman was after serving in the
Revolution from Rowan County, NC. After his father (Joseph) died before 6
August 1787, the heirs signed a deed dated 1795 to one Frederick Fisher.
At the time the deed was dated (1795), William and Benjamin
Hickman were living in Pendleton District, SC. But some 6 years prior to that,
William, Joseph, and Benjamin Hickman (brothers)
were in Wilkes County, GA. William witnessed the deed of Robert
Killgore to John Holmes in Wilkes County on 13 November 1789,
and Joseph witnessed the deed of William Magee to
Ebenezer Starnes on 13 July 1790. William and Benjamin appeared
on the 1790 "census" record of Wilkes County, GA (compiled from tax lists).
Deed book OO of Wilkes County, GA reflects a deed by Henry Lowry of
Pendleton County, SC to Robert Kilgore of Wilkes County, dated 24 January
1797, witnessed and proved by William Hickman. One would have to see the
deed itself to see where it was executed and proved. However, as William Hickman received
a land grant in Pendleton District, SC on 4 February 1799, which was surveyed for him on
17 January 1798, it is probable that the Lowry deed was executed in
Pendleton District, SC. Thus, William Hickman must have moved from Wilkes
County, GA, to Pendleton District, SC
approximately between 1790 and 1799.
It is likely, then, that Joseph Hickman was born in GA, possibly NC or
on the way to GA which may have included a stopover in SC. But we know that the census
record showing Martha Pullen Hickman of 1860 is almost certainly wrong as
William Pullen, her father, lived in Wilkes County, GA in 1790 when she was born.
Joseph Hickman (son of William) must have returned from
Pendleton District, SC, for he married Martha in Wilkes 19 March 1807.
All this prompts these questions and speculation: As William moved to
Pendleton District, SC around 1795 at least, Joseph would have been only
about 8 years old, hardly old enough to form an emotional attachment to 6 year old
Martha. So, why did he return to Wilkes County, GA? The logical answer is that he
had relatives or close family friends there. And who all was in the party that moved from
Wilkes County, GA to Pendleton District, SC in the 1790's besides William and
Joseph Hickman (if any)? One common denominator seems to have been Henry
Lowry who sold land in Wilkes while living in Pendleton District, SC. Another may
be John Lowry who also lived in Wilkes County, GA and perhaps in
Pendleton District, SC. A John Lowry is mentioned in a number of entries
in Old Rowan County, NC from whence the Hickmans came to GA.
If the Lowry families of Rowan County, NC; Wilkes County, GA; and
Pendleton District, SC are the same, there is a strong possibility of a family connection
with the Hickmans . . . such as the wife of William at
that time having been a Lowery. John Lowry sold land in Wilkes County, GA
in 1793 and witnessed along with William Hickman, the deed of
Henry Lowry then of Pendleton District mentioned earlier. Thus, it looks like all
three moved from Wilkes to Pendleton District around the same time.
William Hickman witnessed two different land transactions for members
of the Little family in Rowan County, NC and there were numerous Little
families in Wilkes County, GA. But there was nothing in the GA records to
indicate any connection there and no coincidence of first names.
An analysis needs to be done of the records of Monroe County, MO to see if any Lowry
families moved there or seemed to be connected to William Hickman. Somewhere
there may be a Lowry will which names a daughter either Ann or
Rachel Hickman.
