- after the war, settled in New Iberia and served as Assistant County Agent working with the 4-H youth program where he helped to organize the youth livestock show and sale; with his wife, they raised their family of seven children and were active members of various organizations such as Catholic High Panther Club, Mount Carmel Parent Club and the Boy Scouts of America; owned Theriot Chemicals Inc. between 1949 and 1978, and helped establish the use of liquid fertilizer in Iberia Parish. Later, he managed the Ouchita Fertilizer Company
- after retiring, he began an extensive career of volunteer service; of the 17 different organizations he served, some of his most noteworthy endeavors included: The Make a Difference Program, The Silver Haired Legislature, member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, where he helped to create the annual pancake supper fund-raiser and the establishment of the "RUOK-are you O.K.?" program sponsored by the New Iberia Police and Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office; served on the State Pharmacy Board, The Iberia Social Service Center Board of Directors and The Council on Aging; recipient of the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce’s Civic Service Award and the Second-Wind Award
- devout Catholic, his characteristic enthusiasm lead him to pursue numerous avenues of volunteer service; an active member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church Parish having assisted in the creation of the Living Rosary and the Men’s Vigil Committee; served on the Parish Council; enjoyed serving as a lector and Eucharistic Minister, but his most gratifying activity was to bring Holy Communion to shut-ins; received the Bishop’s medal, the Broussard Award, the Papal medal and was named a Knight of St. Gregory

Inc. in 1965 as chief engineer and surveyor; served his company for 10 years before it was purchased by Tenneco Oil Co. and renamed Tenneco-LaTerre; later promoted to manager of Tenneco-LaTerre, and excelled at the position through decades of dedicated service and four more corporate takeovers by Fina Oil, Totale Chemicals, Castex Energy and finally Apache Corp.; as manager of Apache’s Houma office, he maintained and protected more than 270,000 acres of wetlands in coastal Louisiana
- pioneer in wetlands surface land management and was the driving force behind the implementation of one of the first mitigation banks in the United States; project was located near Theriot; as a result of his leadership on this pilot project, Tenneco-LaTerre received the Conservation Corporation award from the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and the National Wildlife Federation; also received the achievement award in industrial ecology from Tenneco Oil Co. for his efforts to develop creative approaches to protecting fish, wildlife and other public values associated with the wetlands of Tenneco-LaTerre during exploration and production of oil and gas; through his leadership, Fina-LaTerre was presented with the Good Land Use Award from the Louisiana Soil and Water Conservation Society for preserving and enhancing coastal wetlands
