RESEARCH

While my research is scattered among several
families, my geographic concentration is fairly narrow. Primarily, my family can/could be
found in
Southeastern Louisiana (the
Mississippi delta): All of my mother's ancestors and family are in this area. That
includes
Galiano/Galliano (a town is named for my
great great grandfather),
Autin,
Bergeron,
Due/Duhe/Duet,
Danos,
Gisclair,
Guidry, Ledet, Pitre, Schouest/Chouest.
Washington County, Missouri
and neighboring counties: My paternal grandfather's family are in this area. They include
Boyer (both the lines of Claude and
Nicholas Etienne), Crites,
Dean, Dicus, Farrow(Farrar),
Kennedy, Mercil/Merseal/Mersille,
Oster, Portais/Portell, Roussin, Staples
Glengarry County, Ontario
This is where my Kennedy clan entered North
America. They came from Scotland and settled in Kenyon Township near Alexandria. Around
1860, my great great grandfather Donald Hugh Kennedy left the family behind and moved to
Missouri. Many Kennedy descendants are still living in this area.
Birmingham, Alabama
and
vicinity: My paternal grandmother's parents came from this area, where their forebears
settled on their migration from the colonies. The families include Burgin, Ellard,
Frazier,
George, Hickman, Killough,
Lindsey, McMath, Perkins, Posey, Pullen, Self,
Shackelford, Sandifer, Tally/Talley, Truss, White
Boucher
from France to Quebec and on to Missouri and Louisiana. The Boucher
family has been quite a surprise for me in my research. Early on, I had tracked my Boucher
ancestry through my mother and eventually up through her Autin lineage. Many months later,
I finally made a critical connection on my father's Portell family line. The excellent
volumes prepared by the Institut Genealogique Drouin named the Dictionnaire National des
Canadiens-Francais provided me with over one hundred ancestral names in one trip to the
Tampa Library. (That hasn't happened again - darn it!) As I entered the names into my
files, I noticed one ancestor already had a child. This was odd since I was entering
upward, ancestor by ancestor. As I stepped down from Marin Boucher, I realized that my
father and mother were related. Albeit by ten generations, the Boucher clan had spread
independently through Missouri and Louisiana to create a couple that would meet and marry
in the 1940s. Surprise, I am a tenth cousin once removed to my sister.
Epherium Frazier and Elizabeth Blackwell
This line is provided by P. Johnson.
I do not know of any connection to my own Frazier lines.
