THE HICKMAN ROUND ROBIN |
A few years ago, Josephine Parker McClure contacted me about our common Hickman ancestors. She had been in contact with several other researchers over the years. She suggested that we might benefit from a research Round Robin. Her contacts combined with mine started a small group of researchers sharing the common Hickman ancestry of Francis Hickman and Elizabeth (Chamberlain).
Jo began by preparing a packet of research from her records and sending it on to me. I copied her data, and added my own. I sent it on to another genealogist, and thus the research chain letter began. As the group grew, the Round Robin's packet moved slower and slower. We started The Hickman Family, our group's newsletter to speed the exchange of information. The newsletter helped keep the sharing moving faster and allowed us to share our findings with family members not active in research.
Now we include more than one Hickman line and over 60 different researchers. All this by 'word of mouth'. I wonder what we might accomplish with a dedicated effort?
This Web Page becomes our latest step forward on the effort to uncover our roots.
